Xbox 360 makes family time, quality time. Only Xbox LIVE delivers a world of games, movies, social entertainment and starting this November, live sports, allowing you to share them with the people you care about, around the world.

This November, the new Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack will offer up to four individual Xbox LIVE Gold memberships for only US$99.99 – the price of two regular Xbox LIVE Gold subscriptions. Now as you prepare for the launch of Kinect for Xbox 360, which makes YOU the controller, consider giving your family premium Gold experience and access to the biggest names in entertainment.

Perfect for families, the Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack will also offer access to additional conveniences and services including the new Family Center, accessible on the Xbox dashboard and Xbox.com for easier family management, access to activity monitoring reports, and the ability to purchase and give Microsoft Points to other Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack members.

An Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack includes:

  • Up to four individual Xbox LIVE Gold memberships for the price of two – (US) $99.99.

The industry-leading, built-in Xbox 360 Family Settings are also being taken to the next level this November. It's Microsoft's goal to provide parents and caregivers with tools and resources to manage their children's gaming and entertainment experiences, and these features are available to all Xbox LIVE members:

  • Family Programming that removes all mature games, movies, and content from the dashboard, based on ESRB, Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) ratings and the TV Parental Guidelines system . Family Programming is password protected, and easy to turn on and off for each member. (Compatible with international ratings systems.)
  • Title exceptions – the ability to allow your family members to play specific games above the console’s designated ESRB rating if you deem appropriate. (Compatible with international ratings systems.)
  • Intelligent default settings for child, teen, and adult profiles. Xbox will automatically assign default privacy and activity settings for each member that can later be individually customized.
  • Family Settings are displayed prominently in the MyXbox channel. Current tools include the Family Timer, which allows you to control the amount of time - either daily or weekly - your children may use the console.

Whether you want to play your favorite games, stream movies and music from Zune, or watch the latest sporting event together via ESPN on Xbox LIVE1, Xbox 360 brings the best family-friendly entertainment straight to your living room.

Who’s Jumping In?

A LETTER FROM MARC WHITTEN: E3 2010

image

Dear Xbox LIVE Members,

Today at E3, we revealed our vision for the transformation of games and entertainment. It was an honor to share with you the work the Xbox LIVE team has done this year.

On stage, I announced an exclusive collaboration between ESPN and Xbox LIVE to bring the stadium experience right into your living room, with more than 3,500 live and on-demand global sports events on ESPN3.com. I also announced Video Kinect and Zune music on Xbox LIVE, which will be enhanced by Kinect for Xbox 360, a truly extraordinary technology that makes these experiences simple, natural and above all, fun. I also talked about our continuing commitment to our global members, bringing Xbox LIVE to virtually every country where Xbox is sold and continuing to expand content and experiences around the world.

This innovation is our passion and our obligation to you, the Xbox LIVE community. The 25 million of you playing “Halo” (Microsoft Game Studios) and “Call of Duty” (Activision), watching movies on Zune and Netflix, and sharing with your friends have pushed us to think big and to continue delivering new and meaningful experiences.

We also unveiled the new Xbox 360. Built for you, the Xbox 360 250GB is back in black with a sleeker and leaner design, is whisper-quiet, and comes with an internal removable 250GB hard drive. It also boasts the fastest Wi-Fi built in on any console providing an even easier connection to your Xbox LIVE favorites, including the new offerings that we announced today.

With that in mind, I’d like to share a few more announcements and details about what’s in store for Xbox LIVE, including downloadable hits delivered in the third annual Summer of Arcade program, enhanced Netflix features, and much more.

• The New Dashboard and Kinect for Xbox 360. Here at E3 we’ve shown how Kinect for Xbox 360 will transform the way we experience entertainment. We’ve updated the dashboard with a new look and feel that makes it more inviting and open. We’ve also added the Kinect Hub, a portal to all the controller-free games and entertainment available on your Xbox 360, which you can access with the wave of your hand or the sound of your voice. Our vision for using your voice is “if you can see it, you can say it.” When you say “Xbox,” your console will reveal the commands you can say to navigate and interact with your entertainment. Kinect can also track 48 different points on each player’s body simultaneously. In only minutes it can learn your face and recognize you the next time you want to sign in. It’s truly remarkable to witness technology disappear, and we’re only beginning to scratch the surface of what it can do. Kinect also makes your existing games better. If you want, you can use it for party and in-game voice chat for all of your games on LIVE.

• Summer of Arcade. Summer of Arcade is a program that has delivered some of the most beloved Xbox LIVE Arcade games of all time, including “Braid” (Microsoft), “Castle Crashers” (Microsoft), “Shadow Complex” (Microsoft), and “Trials HD” (Microsoft). This year, enjoy another stellar line-up: “Castlevania Harmony of Despair” (Konami Digital Entertainment), “Hydro Thunder Hurricane” (Microsoft), “Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light” (Square Enix), “Limbo” (Microsoft) and “Monday Night Combat” (Microsoft). The third annual Summer of Arcade will kick-off in July, and will continue to bring you the best downloadable titles in the industry. This comes hot off the heels of Xbox LIVE Arcade Block Party, which resulted in a record breaking March – the highest number of downloads for the month of March to date in Arcade history.

• Netflix Search. We're proud of our continued innovation with Netflix. We were the first gaming console to bring instantly streaming movies from Netflix right to the living room. The first to let you update your Netflix instant Queue without a computer. And Xbox LIVE remains the only place you can share the fun with up to seven friends in a Movie Party. Starting this November, Xbox 360 will offer Netflix search. Just type what you’re looking for, immediately search from thousands of titles you can watch instantly, and update your Queue, all right over Xbox LIVE. We’re making your entertainment easier to discover.

• The Xbox LIVE and ESPN Community. Our breakthrough collaboration with ESPN is going to fundamentally change the way people think about sports at home. But beyond bringing the competition into your living room, Xbox LIVE is bringing unique new ways to share the sports you love with your friends and the entire community. With ESPN on Xbox LIVE you can become part of the action by declaring your allegiance to your team and seeing how many other Xbox LIVE members are on the same side. Join other fans with group trivia, polls and predictions that pit you against friendly rivals. You’ll be able to see what the Xbox LIVE community is watching, and which are the most popular games and events at that moment in time. It’s sports made more social, exciting and accessible, only on Xbox LIVE.

• More Music with Zune. Today, we took the next leap forward by bringing Zune music to Xbox LIVE. Zune will deliver seven million tracks to the Xbox LIVE community and an intuitive music experience unlike any other with Kinect. Zune music on Xbox also integrates seamlessly with the 16,000 music videos available through Zune on Xbox LIVE, so if you own a video it will automatically play on-screen during the corresponding song.

We’re proud that we have new partners, more gaming and entertainment content than ever before, and new ways to access and discover that content.

As we head into a new decade, my hope is to continue breaking barriers and crossing boundaries on Xbox LIVE by delivering the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, wherever you are. While I’m incredibly proud of my team and what we’ve shared with you today, the best is yet to come. Keep playing, keep sharing, keep pushing us.

See you on LIVE,

Marc Whitten

E3: Introducing Kinect for the Xbox 360

image

On the eve of the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, Xbox made entertainment history through a stunning Cirque du Soleil production that brought controller-free gaming and entertainment to life and gave “Project Natal” its real name: Kinect for Xbox 360.

[via Xbox.com]

Project Natal Officially Confirmed by Major Nelson to be Kinect!

image

Just in, Project Natal has been officially confirmed by Major Nelson to be named, Kinect for the Xbox 360.

What do you think of the name?

USA Today leaked Project Natal’s New name, Kinect! [Video added]

image

So the code name for Project Natal is not Wave and it’s not the latest rumored name, Oculus, it’s officially named Kinect!!!

image

What do you think of the name? I don’t get it if you ask me. The name ties in with Microsoft’s new phones, the KIN 1 & 2. Will Kinect connect in someway with the KIN studio? Maybe!

Kinect… Kinect, just not doing it for me. Hopefully the games will.

Kinect games in the works:

Kinectimals lets you train and play with 20 different virtual cats, including a lion, cheetah and tiger.

Joyride, a racing game, lets players use their hands to hold an imaginary steering wheel — pull your hands toward you and push back out for an acceleration boost — and their bodies to execute jumps and tricks.

image

Kinect Sports has six activities including boxing, bowling, beach volleyball, track and field, soccer and table tennis. To serve a volleyball, you mimic the real motion; in soccer, you can kick the ball or do a header.

Kinect Adventures includes a river-raft time trial and obstacle course, playable by up to four players. On the raft, playing as a duo, you and a partner must lean one way or another to steer. Jumping helps the raft reach special areas for extra points.

Dance Central, in development by MTV Games, brings a So You Think You Can Dance experience home.

Star Wars characters and iconic Disney favorites will be featured in separate new games being developed at Microsoft in conjunction with LucasArts and Disney.

Is Project Natal's New name _ _ _ _ _ _ ?

imageYou have heard the rumors no doubt for what Project Natal’s new name could be, Wave! Now there is a new rumor. I came across a post on Xboxic.com with the above image and the poster, JasonA, a Forum Admin saying, “Im not too sure Natal will be called Wave and the circles are back!”.

Then JasonA went on to post, “it's a 6 letter word ending in ***LUS”.

I dropped the image into Photoshop and after a few minutes I am now 100% sure it’s OCULUS covering the black bar. OCULUS is a Latin word for eye. Kind of makes sense! Project Natal does have it’s eye on you.

See video below for the match up.

So is Project Natal’s New name OCULUS? E3 2010 could only tell us at this point.

A few New Project ‘Wave’ Natal games before the Storm

image E3 is only a few days away and before the Storm of announcements surrounding Project “Wave” Natal hit, the LA Times got a glimpse at a few new games (or as they say, tech demos). They are…

Ricochet – If you haven’t heard about this game already then you are living under a rock. Get out from under it already. Next!

River Rush – You control a virtual raft past waterfalls, rocks and other obstacles. Looks like a wild ride anyone can jump in and play with no manual required.

Living Statue – Kind of confused with the name. A statue is non moving but what the LA Times states, “This game lets players record their avatars dancing and singing karaoke-style, then e-mail the video masterpiece to their friends.”. OK… Sounds like the opposite of a Living Statue but I guess will see more on this come E3.

Obstacle Course - Players pull, dodge and jump their way through a series of levels. Looks like you’ll get a good workout from al these games.

In addition, the LA Times concludes saying, “there will be about a dozen more Natal-licensed titles from other game developers unveiled Monday and Tuesday, but Microsoft has forbidden the publishers from uttering a word about them until after its own news conference Monday morning”.

Nothing here really WOWing me just yet but I'm sure their saving the best for E3, so be sure to tune in to The World Premiere of Project NatalWave’ experience as imagined by Cirque du Soleil airs commercial-free on MTV, Tuesday, June 15 at 3:30 P.M. ET, and on Nick at Nite, mtvU, MTV Hits, and Logo, Tuesday, June 15, at 9 P.M. ET.

Is Project Natal’s New Name ‘Wave’? [Updated]

image

Rumors have been flying around for weeks stating ‘Wave’ as the new name for Project Natal, the controller-free gaming and entertainment for the Xbox 360. I passed on posting anything on this rumor back when it started because it was debunked right away since Microsoft already has a technology site called Microsoft Wave.

I did think for a minute that maybe Microsoft Wave is a front since it’s only talking future tech, including Project Natal and nothing else really. It also sprung up shortly after last year’s 2009 E3 announcement of Project Natal. Coincidence?

They could still keep Microsoft Wave and have Xbox Wave as well or just ‘Wave’. Microsoft Wave isn’t a product, yet, just the name of their site relating to the freshest developments and products to come out of Microsoft.

I still didn’t think of posting this rumor until I saw a tweet arrive and get deleted seconds later (see UPDATE below) by Danny Pena aka ‘Godfree’ Founder of Gamertag Radio that asked, “Wave or Move?”. This question is asking gamers which motion controller will win their money, “Wave’ (Project Natal) or Move? (Sony’s new motion controller for the PS3).

image

image

I tweeted back right away (so I thought, see UPDATE below), “@godfree Wave!!!and the next thing I know, his tweet was removed. I then tweeted back, “@godfree Wait a minute, Wave? So is this (Wave) the official name for Project Natal??? What just happen to your tweet, "Wave or Move?"” I received no response back.

Since @godfree does work closely with Microsoft and the Xbox team and most likely knows the official name for Project Natal, I can only think he posted that question then realized what he did, so deleted it right away. UPDATE: Since he didn’t delete the tweet, he still asked the question as “Wave or Move?”, not “Natal or Move?”, so does he know or was he just throwing out the rumored name as a Anonymous commenter below said?

Everyone tweet @godfree and confront him on this. We wants' to know!

UPDATE: Looks like Godfree didn’t delete the tweet after all. Godfree tweeted, “delete what? http://is.gd/cMvWj lol he was too lazy for not searching? ha!”. Hey, I’m a dude, what do you expect, LOL.

What happened was I had just opened TweetDeck and Godfree’s tweet immediately popped up with the question, “Wave or Move?”. I went to look for the tweet in Tweetdeck to reply and found nothing! I went to twitter and thinking it was just tweeted, still found nothing! That is why I tweeted him back. I’m still waiting for his response.

Now that I’m looking at the timestamp from his tweet, it was tweeted almost two hours before I first saw it, and I thought it had just received the tweet. Thanks TweetDeck!!!

Not a problem. Still, he tweeted ‘Wave’, I have the proof now at least. LOL

UPDATE 2: I just noticed, I received a comment below from Godfree as well saying, “delete? hmmm not really.... http://twitter.com/godfree/status/15657169396”. Yeah, as I stated above, I read the tweets and updated the post. Now what about calling Natal, ‘Wave’? Is it or is it NOT the new name for Project Natal???

Your answer is?
