CVG posted an article recently stating, “Left 4 Dead project lead Chet Faliszek has said the 360 community is "head and shoulders above the PS3", and that's why the multiplayer-focused Left 4 Dead series isn't on Sony's console. Right now for Left 4 Dead 2 we're looking at PC and 360 because the community aspects really fit the game - it's all about playing with your friends," he said.
For me, being on Xbox Live now for over 6 years, I have to agree. I recently picked up a PS3 (for FREE I might add) and so far have played through and completed Both Uncharted and Uncharted 2 campaigns. I also played a week or two of the Uncharted 2 online beta and I am playing the newly released retail version at the moment (check my stats). I really like the game play of Uncharted 2, how you can jump up on and over stuff, up walls and what not, very fluid and quick to react to my button pushes. The lag is a bit frustrating sometimes while playing online (yes LAG! I know… All the PS3 fanboys claim there is no lag on the PS3 but trust me, this game has LAG! OK, back on topic). The part I don’t like about the PS3 is that it seems 80 to 90% of the gamers have NO headsets.
I would play game after game and hear no one and then finally get into a match and hear a group of guys but then they would all end up on the other team since they’re already partied up. So it didn’t matter to me anyways since the only time I heard them was when they would talk smack when they took me out or vice-versa.
Because there is so little communication in the game, the experience is not as fun as it should be. Yes, that’s my problem, I know, I have no friends per say on the PS3 or I could have partied up with them. Out of my 100 friends on Xbox Live I have so far only hooked up with two of them on the PSN, neither of them have Uncharted 2.
Since most don’t have headsets on the PS3, it’s a little hard to make friends. Not only that, it’s a difficult to invite someone to become a friend as well. It’s not like Xbox Live where you could be in the game lobby after a match, choose a person you want to add and click ‘Send Friend Request’. Basically while playing every game it is that easy on the Xbox 360 to add a friend.
With Uncharted 2 on the PS3 you have to open the XMB, go to Friends, choose Add a Friend, then you have to remember how they spelled their name. Which might be difficult since some have names spelled weirdly, with numbers as letters and other letters used as symbols or just misspelled, you get the idea. You better just right it down before going into the XMB. The Players Met option under Friends would be easier but it stopped working a month ago when I guess it filled up with names. It still shows players I met in the Uncharted 2 beta, back on 10/08/2009 6:25 PM was the last entry. It would be nice if it updated each game but it doesn’t. I Googled it and can’t seem to find a fix for this problem dating back to 2007. Naughty Dog did come out with a title update stating the “Players Met” list not displaying recent players was fixed but in the comments below the news, people still state that they are having a problem with it, as am I.
I had two guys so far send me a friend request in the few months I have been online with the PS3 and neither spoke English so I didn’t accept it, poor guys.
I blame Sony for the lack of the community support. Not one Playstation 3 was shipped with a headset. Sure, most people have a Bluetooth headset and that’s kind of cool they support 3rd party bluetooth headsets but the two bluetooth headsets I have weren't compatible so I had to run out to get a new one that was compatible. Then you have the problem with everyone that does have a headset having either really cheap headsets that pick up every little noise or they sound muffled or other problems. Unlike Xbox 360 everyone for the most part has the same headset and pretty much everyone sounds the same. I’m not saying the Xbox 360 has a superior headset but most everyone has one since Microsoft bundled it into most systems.
Sure, you have to pay $50 a year (or less if you shop around) for Xbox Live Gold where the PSN is free but that just goes to show, you get what you pay for.
At the moment, Xbox Live takes the Crown for being more community friendly and in turn confirms why ‘Left 4 Dead 2’ is not coming to the PS3.
