Drums in Guitar Hero 3?

WOW!!! This video has left me speechless.

I can barley do the drums on Medium in Guitar Hero: World Tour or Rock Band but this guy, this guy is smashing this song using a custom midi controller designed to play as if you were drumming, in a guitar only game, Guitar Hero 3, on Expert!

Just amazing!

Title Update for Gears of War 2 Now Available

patch

Rod Fergusson at the Gears forums posted the following:

Hey all,
I’m happy to announce that this morning, at 3:40 AM PST, we released a title update that should help with the
current matchmaking issues. In order to get the update out as quickly as possible, we focused just on immediate infrastructure issues and have left any potential gameplay issues for a future update. Here’s what’s in today’s title update:

  • Adjustments to make Public matchmaking faster, especially in the single player party and the four player party case. Some of these adjustments should be felt immediately and some will play out over several days as our update enables us to reduce player segmentation by reducing the number of servers required to do matchmaking. This will increase the number of possible matches available for you to join.
  • A tweak that should prevent us from losing some of our additional detailed stats data that we gather for gearsofwar.com. Due to the large number of concurrent matches, our stats gathering servers were not able to collect data for every single match played. The Xbox LIVE leaderboards are 100% accurate but our existing stats web pages may have some missing data prior to the update.
  • A fix to address the issue where some players were unable to start the story-based campaign if Xbox LIVE was down or unavailable.

Something to keep in mind, if you have been playing Gears 2 since the title update was made available, then you will need to restart the game in order to be prompted for the update. If you don’t do this, then a situation will occur where people without the update will not be able to match make with people who have the update. This has nothing to do with the game or this update in particular, just the way the title update system works.
We want to thank everyone for their patience during this time and we will continue to monitor the situation. We’re hopeful that the matchmaking issues we’ve seen up till now are a thing of the past.
Thanks,
Rod.

The update did help in getting in a match quicker with one or four people but it never really bothered me much since I always had a full party or went in alone on Wingman and found a match right away. Their was the few times I could not find a match but restarting the search got me right in with no real problems.

The patch they should have released was to fix the glitches or lag that cause you to have no gun, can't throw or set smoke as a proximity mine, can't pick up a weapon or grenades, and can't rowdie run.

Then we have the get sucked in from a mile away by noobs chainsawing you even after you have rolled out of the way of it problem that was fixed in Gears 1 but now worst in Gears 2.

Also, the weapon slide is still a problem. You would have thought they got that fixed by now since it was a huge problem in Gears 1.

And what's with, after a game, win or lose, we are stuck in the stats page for over 23 seconds with no option to take are party back to the lobby? Their is either an awkward silence or trash talking till no tomorrow and we are stuck with it. Those 23 seconds seem to last a lot longer no matter win or lose.

Trash talking brings up another thing. Where is the quick mute button?!? Every online game needs a quick mute button and Gears 2 has nothing even close to quick. Good thing for the NXE and the party chat but still, their needs to be a quick mute button in every game.

Hopefully the next patch will be out quick and all these issues will be no more or people will be moving on to bigger and better games.

Halo 3: Recon has a new name

image

Halo® 3: ODST returns players to familiar ground on a vital, top-secret mission. The gripping story, cooperative campaign and new multiplayer content will have Halo fans "Preparing to Drop" in Fall 2009. Originally titled Halo 3: Recon, the new game brings the perspective of new characters to the Human-Covenant struggle, as it explores the ODST, or Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.image

  • ODSTs: Follow the story of the legendary ODSTs or Orbital Drop Shock Troopers as they drop into the ruined city of New Mombasa, looking for clues behind the Covenant's catastrophic attack on the city.
  • A new hero: Prepare to drop. Known for their courage, valor and at times, insanity, Orbital Drop Shock Troopers are among the fiercest UNSC soldiers, priding themselves on being the first unit deployed into hostile situations. While not as large or supernaturally gifted as their Spartan comrades, these Hell Jumpers more than compensate with their ferocious attitudes and unwavering nerve.
  • Multiplayer: All the traditional features ofHalo 3 multiplayer will be included in the new game, including full-featured integration with the Forge map editor.
  • More to come: More information about Halo 3: ODST and the ODST characters will be made available in the near future, so stay tuned!

NXE - Install or Not to Install Games to the HDD

HDD no Halo 3

You no doubt know that the New Xbox Experience was released today and one of the best features allows you to install your games to the HDD (the Hard Drive).

Installing your games to the HDD can make some games perform a little better while also putting a little less wear-and-tear on your DVD drive.

Is this true with all games? NO! Unfortunately a few games are worst if installed to the HDD and Halo 3 falls into this category. Halo 3 will actually see increased loading times if installed to the HDD. You can read more on why @ Bungie.net.

So what games are best installed to the HDD? Binge Gamer has compiled a list of games showing how much time you will be saving. Hop on over and take a look at their chart.

Be sure to spread the word on this topic. If you play multiplayer with people with Halo 3 installed on their HDD, your load times will also be affected even though you're playing from the DVD.

Top 10 things to do when you get the New Xbox Experience

NXE

The New Xbox Experience is here and Major Nelson has posted the Top 10 list of things to do with NXE when you finally get it.

1) Create (or Customize) your Avatar – You can spend as much (or as little) time as you want in the Avatar Editor to personalize your little guy/girl

Bonus: When you are done with #1, be sure to take a Gamer Picture of your Avatar. In the Avatar editor, choose Gamer Picture. You can use the controls to move your avatar around, zoom in and out or even change the background color (press Y)

2) Explore the all new dashboard. (hint: use the trigger and bumpers to quickly scroll up and down or left and right)

3) PAR-TAY! Check out Xbox LIVE Parties and chat with up to seven of your friends. Go to the Friends channel…choose a friend who is online and press Y to get the party started. You can also hit the Xbox 360 Guide button > Party >Start a Party. Once you do that, send off invites to your party (since one does not make a very good party…does it?)

4) Themes. While any themes you work will NXE, check out some of the new themes via My Xbox and select your profile (second slot) and then change theme. Xbox 360, Spectrum, Day and Night are new themes that available as part of your NXE upgrade…check them out.

5) Marketplace on Xbox.com. This new feature lets you search, browse, and purchase games and videos while you are away from your console. You can also perform account management functions like changing your billing information, viewing your purchase history, and downloading items you already own.

6) Netflix – Xbox LIVE Gold Member and you have Netflix? If you are in the US you can stream thousands of videos (some in HD) directly from Netflix to your Xbox 360. Not a member? Sign up for a free trial at Xbox.com/netflix

7) Install to / Play from Hard Drive. With the game in the tray, return to your dashboard. (pressing the guide button then Y works as always) then go to My Xbox. From here press Y, which will bring up a new menu which will allow, among other things the ability to install a game to your hard drive.
Hint: You can still use the Xbox 360 guide while installing a game to keep in touch with your friends or start a Party.
Bonus: Before you do #7, be sure to set up what happens when you turn on your Xbox 360.  My Xbox->System Settings>Console settings. Then choose Start up to to choose Disc, Xbox Dashboard or Windows Media Center. Once you are done there…check the option right below it: Autostart. This tell your Xbox 360 what to do when you insert a game. The choices are enable or disable. I have mine set to disable so I can easily use install to hard drive.

8) Delete Zero Gamerscore games. You can remove any games from your games played list that you have earned no achievements or gamerscore. Press the Xbox 360– guide button, navigate left to the games section and choose Achievements. From here choose the game with zero gamerscore you want to remove and press X (Delete Game History.)

9) Press the Xbox 360 button on your controller to see the all new Guide. The team has added more functionality than the old guide, while making it more responsive. It’s a quick way to check your messages, see who is online or start a party.

10) Take a look at Community Games in the Games Marketplace. For the first time in the history of console gaming, thousands of games developed by the creative community will be available to the public.

For those that have the new Xbox Experience, what are your favorite new feature(s)?

Letter from Marc Whitten, General Manager, Xbox LIVE at Microsoft

It has been a truly incredible year for Xbox LIVE. We have grown our community by millions of people, and over the past 12 months have heavily invested and worked to make our vision for this online service come to life.

Today, I’m proud to finally say that the New Xbox Experience is here.

This has been an exciting journey for all of us. The next time you turn on your Xbox 360, the way you enjoy entertainment in your home will be changed forever. The New Xbox Experience will not only be easier to use from the very beginning, but it will give you new ways to connect with your friends and family and offer up more entertainment choices than any other device connected to the TV.

Our partnership with Netflix and our very own Xbox LIVE Marketplace allows us to bring you nearly 30,000 hi- and standard-definition movies and TV shows. Our back-end architecture allows us to connect you with up to seven friends – whether you want to play a game, or share photos. Our creative team made Avatars so you can express and represent yourself in the world of Xbox 360.

We think there is nothing like it, and we hope you agree.

When Xbox LIVE launched nearly six years ago to this day, we knew that we could innovate faster, make bigger bounds, and leap forward to the next generation. Today, we are excited that you are experiencing this leap forward with us.

So please, turn on your Xbox 360, and enjoy the New Xbox Experience.

See you on LIVE,

Marc Whitten, General Manager, Xbox LIVE at Microsoft

A New Dawn in Home Entertainment for Everyone Begins Nov. 19

gamer pic

New Xbox Experience ushers in a new era of entertainment with Netflix, plus partnerships with movie studios throughout the world.

REDMOND, Wash. — Nov. 17, 2008 — In 1954, the introduction of color TV heralded the dawn of a new era in entertainment. On Nov. 19, more than 50 years after that dramatic shift, a new era in home entertainment begins with the New Xbox Experience, as millions of Xbox 360 consoles will transform in an instant through the power of software. A bold new future begins now, where high-definition (HD) entertainment is delivered in an instant, the best games share the stage with the best movies and TV shows, and every experience is shared with friends and family in the same room or around the world.

By the end of this month, Xbox 360 will reach another industry-defining milestone:
25 million Xbox 360 consoles sold worldwide. It has taken the leading next-generation game and entertainment console just three years to eclipse the total lifetime number of original Xbox consoles sold.

“The future of home entertainment is Xbox 360 — it’s on-demand, it’s high-definition, it’s always social, it’s all in one place,” said Don Mattrick, senior vice president for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft Corp. “With the New Xbox Experience, we will reach the next generation of Xbox owners, 25 million and beyond. We are at a watershed moment, backed by the largest entertainment brands, with an incredible lineup of entertainment unmatched in any industry.”

All Your Friends and Favorite Entertainment, One Remote Control

With the launch of the New Xbox Experience, Xbox 360 owners will enjoy a limitless world where the best games, movies and TV shows are ready to share with friends across the globe through Xbox LIVE:

  • Netflix instantly streaming in HD. The New Xbox Experience isn’t the only thing that will look great on your TV. Netflix is taking the first step by instantly streaming movies and TV episodes in high definition with the introduction of approximately 300 choices in HD via Xbox 360, including “La Vie en Rose,” “Flawless” and “Heroes.” Xbox 360 is the only Netflix-ready device to offer high-definition movies and TV episodes.
  • Xbox LIVE Party. Xbox 360 allows you to create a virtual party on your TV with up to seven friends. With Xbox LIVE Party, use voice chat while you play games,1 share photos in real time and entertain friends all over the world.
  • Personality plus. Create a customizable, animated avatar and literally jump into the world of Xbox LIVE. Your avatar is your game face throughout the New Xbox Experience and represents your personality — whether you are serving as an Xbox LIVE Party host, playing a game of “Scene It? Box Office Smash” or chatting with a friend.
  • On-demand entertainment. Xbox 360 is home to the best TV and movie entertainment, including more than 12,000 movies and TV episodes from Netflix and a large online library of more than 15,000 on-demand high-definition TV shows and movies from global partners such as Constantin, The Walt Disney Studios, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM), NBC Universal Inc. and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.
  • Your personal game room. Play revived classics such as “PAC-MAN Championship Edition,” “Galaga Legions” and “Portal: Still Alive” alongside games that put your avatars in the action, such as “A Kingdom for Keflings,” “UNO,” “Hardwood Hearts” and “Hardwood Spades,” exclusively for download from Xbox LIVE Arcade. Xbox LIVE members also will be able to access all of Xbox LIVE Marketplace, including Xbox LIVE Arcade, and even queue content to download straight from Xbox.com.
  • Games for the community, by the community. For the first time in the history of console gaming, thousands of games developed by the creative community will be available to the public. The Community Games channel on Xbox LIVE will include games made by students, hobbyists and maybe even your next door neighbor, and will be exclusive to Xbox LIVE.

The World’s Biggest Names in Entertainment, All in One Place

No device offers more entertainment than Xbox 360. In addition to Netflix in the United States, major film studios around the world unveiled their plans to offer feature films on Xbox LIVE in Canada, Italy and Spain, truly transforming Xbox 360 into the world’s largest online entertainment center:

  • Magnolia Pictures. The studio that released such groundbreaking and award-winning feature films as “The World’s Fastest Indian,” “The Host,” “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room” and “Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior” will be bringing its slate of compelling feature films to Xbox LIVE in Canada and the U.S.
  • MGM. MGM is bringing its library of blockbuster movies to Xbox LIVE in Italy and Spain. MGM, already available in Canada, France, Germany, the U.K. and the U.S., will offer films such as “Carrie,” “Rocky” and “Species” on Xbox LIVE around the world.
  • Paramount Pictures. Paramount Digital Entertainment will mark the two-year anniversary of making its movies available on Xbox LIVE by becoming a content provider in Italy and Spain. Films such as “Iron Man,” “Stop-Loss” and “The Ruins” will be made available worldwide this fall.
  • Warner Bros. Digital Distribution. Warner Bros. Digital Distribution will make 100 movie titles available on Xbox LIVE in Italy, including “Interview With the Vampire” and “The Matrix Trilogy.” Xbox LIVE in Spain also will offer 100 movie titles, including “Sweeney Todd” and “One Missed Call.” Currently the studio offers content in Canada, Germany, France, the U.K. and the U.S.

Xbox 360 Puts You in the Spotlight This Holiday

While Xbox 360 has evolved into a world-class entertainment device, it remains the best place to play. In concert with the launch of the New Xbox Experience, two entertainment heavyweights step into the spotlight, ready to wow audiences across the world. Today is the launch of “Lips” and “You’re in the Movies,” two games that promise to get you on your feet and performing like a star.

  • “Lips” is an all-new music franchise exclusively for Xbox 360. “Lips” is the only singing game that offers wireless, motion-sensitive microphones and the ability to sing to a diverse list of included songs representing multiple musical genres, ranging from pop, rock and dance to hip-hop, country and R&B, as well as compatible songs from your music collection.2
  • “You’re in the Movies” brings out the movie star in everyone this holiday season with its release exclusively on Xbox 360 coming Nov. 18. It’s the first and only game of its kind that transports players into a magical world of cinema and hilarious improvisations. Using the Xbox LIVE Vision camera, friends and families choose a script, act it out and in minutes watch the often hilarious, always entertaining results.

NXE Avatars URL'd for your Pleasure... or Not

image

Two more days and the World will be littered with the NXE avatars. Love em or hate em, hardcore or not, every Xbox 360 owner will have an avatar to either resemble themselves or possibly someone or something, so you might as well make the most of it.

image

Once you have chosen an avatar, you are now ready to use the NXE to it's fullest. Don't want to use the avatar, then the guide button from here on out will be your friend. Boot up you Xbox 360 hit the guide button on your controller and the mini blade system has everything you will ever need and want bypassing the avatar all together.

That doesn't mean others can't see the avatar of you or the one you have chosen or created, you won't be able to block people from seeing your avatar so take a sec and create yourself or something else that others can laugh at.

Don't mind the avatars, then not only will you be able to view your avatar on your Xbox 360 but on the web as well. Not sure of the use the Xbox Team has for them on the web but they are URL'd so you can use them in your very own website, blog, forum post, Facebook, even in your emails.

Below are the URL's for two different size gamer pics and avatar.

Halo 3 Recon Armor for all, Confirmed

recon_armor

Page 63 from the December issue of Game Informer has the info Halo fans have been waiting for days to see in print (click image above to enlarge). It's the ability to finally get there grubby hands on the Recon Armor.

"Recon armor is unquestionably the most sought after status  symbol in the entirety of Halo 3 multiplayer. The problem is, players can only get it directly from a Bungie staff member, and this almost never happens (despite the constant flood of pleading emails and Live messages). All of that is about to change. Once the aptly titled  Halo 3: Recon is released, players will finally be able to earn this coveted armor on their own. The best part is you can start working toward it now. Fans have been speculating on the newly added Vidmaster Challenge achievements featured in September's Halo 3 title update. We can now confirm that completing these four achievements, in addition to three new Vidmaster Challenges available only through the Halo 3: Recon disc, will unlock Recon armor at long last."

So "7" (Bungies favorite number) achievements in all, four from September's Halo 3 title update and three more from the Halo 3: Recon disc come Fall of '09, to finally complete the Vidmaster Challenge that will in turn unlock Recon armor at long last.

Fall of '09 can't come soon enough but at least you have some achievements to work on now. How many have the four Vidmaster Challenges achievements from September's Halo 3 title update?

New Xbox Experience: Installing NXE

The New Xbox Experience will be released on November 19th and to prepare you for it is this video that shows you just how quick and easy the install will be. For many of you, the download and install will take just a few minutes and you’ll be back to gaming before you know it.

Later today I will get the chance to download the NXE early since I unexpectedly got in on the third wave of invites from the NXE preview program, along with 9,999 others. I will update this post with my experience of just how quick and easy it really was.

UPDATE: And I'm in! Just downed the update and it was quick and easy, just like the video showed. It took longer to create my avatar then to down and update my console. I better go now, have to watch a movie with Netflix and the NXE and then do a quick install of Gears 2 to my HDD.

Preparing your Xbox 360 for the NXE

gamer pic

Only 7 more days until the New Xbox Experience!

There's not much that needs to be done to prepare for the NXE if anything really at all, except one thing. If you're planing to use the save to hard drive option (the save to hard drive option not only makes most games load quicker but it also quiets your console down since the DVD drive is not spinning at the high rate it spins), then there is one thing you might want to do before Nov. 19th.

does your xbox look like this

That is to clean the dust bunny's running a muck in your console. Dust caked up inside your console could make your console just as loud as the DVD drive spinning does.

Have you play an arcade game lately or maybe the Left for Dead demo you downloaded and your console was still loud like the DVD drive was still spinning? Games you downloaded off the marketplace are running off the hard drive, the DVD drive isn't spinning, so your console should be fairly silent.

Well if your console is still loud then you will be amazed at how quite it will become once you take a can of compressed air and maybe a vacuum and suck those dust bunny's right out.

Cleaning your console out often won't only help silent it but also keep it from the dreaded RROD.

As the Superintendent would say, "Keep it clean!"

Update: A few people seem to have never used a can of compressed air before, messaging me on how to clean the inside of the Xbox 360 with out opening it up or looking for a walk through.

It's kind of like cleaning the power supply in a computer. You just stick the compressed air nozzle in the small holes and it's best to have a vacuum sucking at the same time, sucking up all the dust. Simple as that. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure it out.

You can only do so much with out opening up your console voiding your warranty. The main thing is to get the caked on dust off the fan, that is where the noise is coming from.

Hope that helps!

Left 4 Dead Demo Out Now on the XBLM!

Left for Dead Demo

Set in a modern day survival-horror universe, the co-operative gameplay of Left 4 Dead™ casts four "Survivors" in an epic struggle against hordes of swarming zombies and terrifying "Boss Infected" mutants.

The Survivor Co-op Game Mode is played out across four sprawling campaigns, set in urban and rural environments. The team of four Survivors may be comprised of one to four human players, allowing for single player and multiplayer co-op games.

The next-generation A.I. technology of all non-player Survivor and zombie characters is a pool of systems used to procedurally generate a unique experience by monitoring the players' experiences and tailoring the pacing and difficulty of action for each game. This makes for a different experience each time the game is played.

In the Left 4 Dead Vs. Mode, play as a Survivor or as one of four types of "Boss Infected." Each of the "Boss Infected" possesses an exceptional mutant ability -- such as a 50-foot tongue lasso or a giant belly full of explosive methane gas -- instead of traditional firearms.

  • Co-op redefined: This new action title from Valve, creators of the Counter-Strike and Half-Life games, promises to redefine the co-operative genre as those titles did for multiplayer and single player action games.
  • A.I. technology: The advanced artificial intelligence drives both friendly and unfriendly creatures to dynamically create intense single-player, co-op, and multiplayer experiences every time the game is played.
  • Expansive environments: Battle across twenty different maps with ten distinct weapons across four sprawling campaigns.
  • Online matchmaking: The matchmaking, stats, rankings, and awards system drive collaborative play.
  • Designer's Commentary mode: Activate this mode for a unique "behind the scenes" look at the development of the game.

A Kingdom for Keflings, the First Xbox 360 Game to Launch with Playable Avatars, Arrives on Nov. 19 with the New Xbox Experience

Giants in video games? Nothing new. But playing with your own doppelganger as the giant? That is something you can only do on Xbox LIVE Arcade.

From NinjaBee, the developer that brought fan favorites “Band of Bugs,” “Outpost Kaloki X” and “Cloning Clyde,” comes “A Kingdom for Keflings,” a new twist to the city-building game genre where you play as a giant working to turn a village of Keflings into a metropolis.

The Xbox LIVE Arcade game, launching on Nov. 19 with the New Xbox Experience, is the first Xbox 360 title to ship with playable, in-game Avatars. “A Kingdom for Keflings” also comes packed with custom animations tailored for Avatars and player-controlled social emotes. The game supports 4-player Xbox LIVE multiplayer with each friend using a custom Avatar, and works perfectly with Xbox LIVE Party.

But Avatar inclusion is just half the fun. In this innovative, Medieval-era city-builder, giants start out with a small village and a handful (literally!) of helpful Keflings who are tiny humanoids that follow the player’s commands and try not to get stepped on. Fun and direct interaction with Keflings includes carrying them around, assigning them jobs and training them to do simple tasks. The game features extensive customization of the city through personally constructing and painting each building and decorating the village with additional elements such as trees, statues and more. Players will have to collect and manage resources to build their village into a full-fledged city.

Other key features of the game include:

  • The ability to build cities online cooperatively with up to 3 friends
  • Stylized animated graphics that change with the seasons and season-based gameplay
  • A dynamic-music soundtrack (which adapts to the season and the state of the village)

Developed by NinjaBee, “A Kingdom for Keflings” will be available for 800 Microsoft Points worldwide. The game is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.

As always, for more information about the New Xbox Experience, including a Developer Diary detailing how Avatars will be used in games, please visit http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/nxe.

7-11 Breaking Street Date for Gears of War 2

7-11

Thanks Gamegirl.

After reading that they scored a number of copy's of Gears of War 2, I had to run out and see if I can score a copy or two.

Most 7-11's have posters in the window with the games releasing soon and the date available for purchase (11-07-08) but most clerks don't know any better. It was the 5th 7-11 I went to when I finally scored a copy of Gears of War 2.

Two of the 7-11's I went to did not sell video games, one was out of GOW2 or it was locked where it should have been in the back office until 11-7 and two stores had them out behind the counter.

The first 7-11 I went to had it behind the counter and he almost sold it to me but then he remembered there was a street date and would not sell it.

gears at 7-11

The 5th 7-11 I went to had it up on a shelf behind the counter and I asked for it, the lady grabbed it, rang it up and she was very suspired at how much video games cost and then asked if I wanted it in a bag. I said, "sure" and off I went.

Gears all night for me!
